Social Accountability Standards


SA8000 is considered an international standard to evaluate companies social accountability towards their societies. Applying this system is a way of trying to create a comprehensive system characterized by compliance with laws and justice. Getting the social accountability includes many stages the most important of which is the commitment to apply the system, practice, feedback, review by the third party, and finally getting the certificate. SA8000 deals with many issues and provides solutions to many problems. This positively affects the society. The referred to issues are:
1- Child Labor Many procedures were applied to find solutions for child labor phenomenon through providing children with financial aids based on what is possible. This is applied with children who come to one of the companies within the group seeking work. The group also communicates through special associations to guarantee children will go back to their schools and continue their education. The company also workes to increase awareness among its importers about this issue to fight the referred to phenomenon.
2- Forced and Compulsory Labor Policies were adopted to fight obligatory working and not applying any of the methods it embodies such as obliging employees to work for minimal wages and holding their documents or financial rights/payments, etc The company paid enormous efforts to increase awareness among companies importers about this issue and the different types of obligatory working.
3- Health and Safety Creating an appropriate working environment and assuring all tools and procedures that guarantee workers safety are available in order to protect workers from any adventure or accident through training them in this area. Besides, the company provides workers with at least the minimal level of life requirements such as public utilities taking into consideration keeping them clean.
4- Working hours and wages Adjusting the usual and overtime working hours based on the local and international laws, paying workers wages that cover their daily expenses, giving workers allowances clearly and fairly.
5- Discrimination: The company adopted policies to fight all types of discrimination. There is no discrimination between employees based on their race, color, sex, marital status, age, or political tendency. Besides, workers are treated the same concerning wages, recruitment, and training. Thus, a system is applied concerning recruitment, training, and evaluation process. Another system is applied for wages including offering yearly allowances/incentives professionally. The company increased awareness of the importers about this issue and fights all types of discriminations.
6- Freedom of Association & Right To Collective Bargaining. The company paid efforts to form labor unions to represent workers at the company. It allows the unions to work freely and conduct group negotiations with companies to guarantee the rights and responsibilities of employees.
7- Disciplinary Practices A procedure was developed for punishing employees referring to laws and human rights taking into consideration respecting employees dignity. A control/monitoring committee was formed to make decisions about lawless employees.
8- Managerial system Managerial procedures and mechanisms were developed to guarantee the efficiency of social accountability applied, continuously improve the principles it implies and disseminate them among all involved parties as well as individuals within society.
